Abstract Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of preoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography with 68Ga-labeled prostate-specific membrane antigen (68Ga-PSMA PET/CT) for staging prostate cancer and compare it with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using histopathology of surgical specimens as the gold standard. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 65 patients with prostate cancer were analyzed. Results: The accuracy of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT for tumor detection was 95%, and that of MRI was 91%. There was no difference between 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT and MRI regarding localization of the lesion. The sensitivity of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT for detecting extraprostatic extension was quite low (14%). For detection of seminal vesicle invasion, 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT showed a sensitivity of 57% and accuracy of 91%. There was a moderate correlation between the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and the serum level of prostate-specific antigen (p < 0.01; ρ = 0.368) and between the SUVmax and the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) grade (p < 0.01; ρ = 0.513). Conclusion: 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT is a promising tool for detecting and evaluating the primary tumor, which can alter the staging and management of the disease.

Resumo Objetivo: Avaliar a acurácia da tomografia por emissão de pósitrons/tomografia computadorizada com PSMA (PET-PMSA) pré-operatória para estadiamento do câncer de próstata e compará-la com a ressonância magnética (RM) utilizando o histopatológico cirúrgico como padrão ouro. Materiais e Métodos: Neste estudo retrospectivo foram analisados 65 pacientes com câncer de próstata. Resultados: A acurácia da PET-PSMA para a detecção tumoral foi de 95% e a da RM foi de 91%. Não houve diferença entre a PET-PSMA e a RM quanto à localização da lesão. A PET-PSMA apresentou baixa sensibilidade (14%) para detecção de extensão extraprostática em comparação ao histopatológico. Para detecção de invasão de vesícula seminal, a PET-PSMA apresentou sensibilidade de 57% e acurácia de 91% em comparação ao histopatológico. Houve correlação moderada entre o SUVmax e o PSA (p < 0,01; ρ = 0,368) e entre o SUVmax e o ISUP (p < 0,01; ρ = 0,513). Conclusão: A PET-PSMA é uma ferramenta promissora para detecção e avaliação do tumor primário, alterando o estadiamento e a conduta do paciente.

The article addresses cooperation between the internal surveillance and control structures of state-owned companies, and intelligence bodies of the Civil-Military Dictatorship of 1964. Particular cases of three state-owned companies are discussed: Petrobras, CSN, and Itaipu Binacional. Based on the set of information available, in various bibliographic sources, a comparative exercise is carried out. The article concludes that such surveillance structures, under the supervision of the National Information Service (SNI), constituted important control and surveillance devices, with the capacity to monitor union, political, social movements, and individuals in wide areas of the national territory.

O artigo aborda a cooperação entre as estruturas de vigilância e controle internas de empresas estatais e órgãos de inteligência da Ditadura Civil-Militar de 1964. São abordados os casos particulares de três estatais: Petrobras, CSN e Itaipu Binacional. A partir do conjunto de informações disponíveis, em várias fontes bibliográficas, é feito um exercício comparativo. O artigo conclui que tais estruturas de vigilância, sob supervisão do Serviço Nacional de Informações (SNI), constituíram-se como importantes dispositivos de controle e vigilância, com capacidade de monitorar movimentos sindicais, políticos, sociais e indivíduos em amplas áreas do território nacional.

Resumo: Johann Gottfried Herder, à semelhança dos seus contemporâneos, reflectiu sobre a linguagem e, em 1772, publicou o Ensaio Sobre a Origem da Linguagem, que, no ano anterior, lhe valera a distinção da Academia de Berlim para melhor ensaio. No entanto, ainda hoje, muito do seu pensamento é desconhecido, ignorando-se, por isso, que algumas das modernas abordagens da filosofia contemporânea, da antropologia filosófica ou mesmo da sociobiologia estão já aí enunciadas, nomeadamente nas narrativas decorrentes da enunciação das quatro leis naturais. Mais do que a justificação sobre a origem da linguagem, o ensaio do filósofo permite ainda compreender a natureza humana, inserindo no coração da antropologia filosófica a sua génese, e contrariando, se não mesmo confrontando, dessa forma, a tradição divina dessa atribuição. Assim, num primeiro momento, far-se-á uma análise genérica da obra, ressaltando as teses fundamentais que permitirão o estabelecimento do diálogo com algumas das abordagens filosóficas contemporâneas. De seguida, admitindo a possibilidade de um cenário de singularidade tecnológica, tal como enunciado por Irving John Good, Vernor Vinge ou Ray Kurzweil, verificar a plausibilidade e a validade das teses de Herder, no que concerne ao alcance da linguagem e à natureza humana, e de como isso poderá constituir uma fronteira de resistência.

Abstract: Johann Gottfried Herder, like his contemporaries, reflected on language and in 1772 published the Treatise on the Origin of Language, which in the previous year had earned the distinction of the Berlin Academy for best essay. However, even today, much of his thought is unknown, ignoring the fact that some of the modern approaches of contemporary philosophy, philosophical anthropology or even sociobiology are already stated there, namely in the narratives resulting from the enunciation of the four natural laws. More than justifying the origin of language, the philosopher’s essay also allows us to understand human nature, inserting its genesis at the heart of philosophical anthropology and contradicting, if not even confronting in this way, the divine tradition of this attribution. Thus, at first, a generic analysis of the work will be carried out, highlighting the fundamental theses that will allow the establishment of a dialogue with some of the contemporary philosophical approaches. Then, admitting the possibility of a scenario of technological singularity, as stated by Irving John Good, Vernor Vinge or Ray Kurzweil, to verify the plausibility and validity of Herder’s theses regarding the scope of language and human nature and how this could constitute a frontier of resistance.

Abstract: The concept of geodiversity has been developed by geoscientists since 1990 in different lines of research such as territorial and patrimonial planning, tourism and the dissemination of knowledge. However, little progress has been made in mapping and quantifying geodiversity. Thus, there are still gaps about the functionality of these graphics products. In order to contribute to these discussions, the aim of this research was to evaluate geodiversity quantification models in Chapada Diamantina National Park and municipality of Morro do Chapéu. The methods Serrano and Ruiz - Flaño and Pereira et al. were chosen for comparison. After choosing the criteria to compare as the choice of variables pertaining to each method, data processing was performed in a geographic information system. Maps with geodiversity indexes and frequency charts were generated. Finally, these products were analyzed using statistical methods and evaluated in the field. In both proposals for quantifying geodiversity, methodological limitations were found, which interfere with the purpose for which the index was created.

Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the world. In different cardiac diseases, the neuronal function of the heart is impaired. Nevertheless, the development of a simple method to assess the autonomic effects on the heart and/or autonomic dysfunction is a challenge. The evaluation of autonomic innervation in cardiac diseases has helped to improve the knowledge of the pathophysiology of these conditions, as well as to provide information on their prognosis. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) are currently the only imaging methods that allow in vivo assessment of cardiac innervation. The majority of SPECT and PET radiotracers evaluate sympathetic neuronal integrity using presynaptic imaging agents that are either labeled as endogenous transmitters or analogues. Postsynaptic imaging agents have also been developed to study sympathetic neuronal integrity, as well as tracers to investigate the parasympathetic nervous system. These methods may be used to analyze the innervation of the heart and allow for early detection of abnormalities caused by, for example, ischemia, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardiotoxicity, and arrhythmogenic disorders. BACKGROUND Non-human primates contribute to the spread of the yellow fever virus (YFV) and the establishment of transmission cycles in endemic areas. OBJECTIVE To describe the severe histopathological aspects of YFV infection, 10 squirrel monkeys were infected with YFV and blood, brain, liver, kidney, spleen, heart, lung, lymph node and stomach were collected at 1-7, 10, 20 and 30 days post-infection (dpi). METHODS Histopathological analysis and detection of the genome and viral antigens and neutralising antibodies were performed by RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry and neutralisation test, respectively. FINDINGS Only one animal died from the experimental infection. The genome and viral antigens were detected in all investigated organs (1-30 dpi) and the neutralising antibodies from seven to 30 dpi. The brain contained perivascular haemorrhage (6 dpi); in the liver, midzonal haemorrhage and lytic necrosis (6 dpi) were observed. The kidney had bleeding in the Bowman’s capsule and tubular necrosis (6 dpi). Pyknotic lymphocytes were observed in the spleen (1-20 dpi), the lung had haemorrhage (2-6 dpi), in the endocardium it contained nuclear pyknosis and necrosis (2-3 dpi) and the stomach contained blood in the lumen (6 dpi). MAIN FINDINGS Squirrel monkeys reliably reproduced the responses observed in human cases of yellow fever and, therefore, constitute an excellent experimental model for studies on the pathophysiology of the disease.

ABSTRACT. Calcium (Ca2+) is a nutrient in tomato plants, of which deficiency usually causes several problems including a physiological disorder known as blossom-end rot (BER) in the fruit. The objective of this study was to evaluate and identify morphological and physiological characteristics related to the susceptibility of tomato varieties to BER. The varieties studied were ‘Amalia’, ‘IPA-6’, ‘M-82’, ‘Mara’, and ‘Nagcarlan’, presenting different fruit formats. Physiological parameters that negatively correlated with BER were plant water potential, leaf area, plant dry mass, relationship between proximal/distal Ca2+, K+ content in the proximal and distal portions of the fruit, and proximal Ca2+ content. Physiological parameters that positively correlated with BER were number of trichomes in the abaxial and adaxial leaf portions, leaf stomatal conductance, distal Ca2+ content bound to the cell wall, leaf transpiration, and fruit length. Our results showed that ‘Mara’ and ‘Nagcarlan’, ‘Amalia’ and ‘IPA-6’, and ‘M-82’ presented low, medium, and high susceptibility to BER, respectively. We also found that total fruit Ca2+ concentration, particularly in the distal fruit tissue, was not the only factor responsible for the development of BER; rather, the balance between factors that increase and decrease the susceptibility of each variety affected development of this disorder.

RESUMO: A anestesia dissociativa em primatas resulta em recuperação anestésica lenta e estressante, e, portanto, o uso de anestesia injetável em pesquisas médicas precisa ser refinado. Por outro lado, o propofol promove recuperação mais suave. Os objetivos desse estudo foram investigar o uso do anestésico intravenoso propofol, estabelecer a taxa de infusão contínua necessária para manter anestesia cirúrgica, e comparar tal técnica com a dissociativa tiletamina-zolazepam em Sapajus apella. Oito macacos-prego saudáveis foram pré-medicados com midazolam e meperidina, e posteriormente anestesiados com propofol (PRO) ou tiletamina-zolazepam (TZ) durante 60 minutos. O propofol foi administrado em infusão contínua, e a taxa foi titulada ao efeito, já a tiletamina-zolazepam foi administrada em 5mg/kg IV como bolus inicial, e repiques de 2,5mg/kg IV conforme necessário. Os parâmetros cardiopulmonares, hemogasometria arterial, cortisol, e lactato, além da qualidade e duração da recuperação anestésica foram determinados. A qualidade da recuperação anestésica foi superior em PRO. O tempo para atingir decúbito ventral (PRO = 43,0±21,4 vs TZ = 219,3±139,7 min) e ambulação normal (PRO = 93±27,1 vs TZ = 493,7±47,8 min) foram mais rápidos em PRO (p<0,05). As variáveis cardiopulmonares não diferiram entre os grupos. A mediana para dose de indução com propofol foi de 5,9mg/kg, variando de 4,7 a 6,7mg/kg. A taxa de infusão contínua média de propofol foi de 0,37±0,11mg/kg/min, variando ao longo dos 60 minutos. Em TZ, dois animais necessitaram de três e cinco repiques. Comparado à tiletamina-zolazepam, menos efeitos adversos pós-anestésicos devem ser esperados com o propofol, devido à recuperação mais suave e rápida.

ABSTRACT: Dissociative anesthesia results in stressful and long recovery periods in monkeys and use of injectable anesthetics in medical research has to be refined. Propofol has promoted more pleasure wake up from anesthesia. The objectives of this study were to investigate the use of intravenous anesthetic propofol, establishing the required infusion rate to maintain surgical anesthetic level and comparing it to tiletamine-zolazepam anesthesia in Sapajus apella. Eight healthy capuchin monkeys, premedicated with midazolam and meperidine, were anesthetized with propofol (PRO) or tiletamine-zolazepam (TZ) during 60 minutes. Propofol was infused continually and rate was titrated to effect and tiletamine-zolazepam was given at 5mg/kg IV bolus initially and repeated at 2.5mg/kg IV bolus as required. Cardiopulmonary parameters, arterial blood gases, cortisol, lactate and quality and times to recovery were determined. Recovery quality was superior in PRO. Ventral recumbency (PRO = 43.0±21.4 vs TZ = 219.3±139.7 min) and normal ambulation (PRO = 93±27.1 vs TZ = 493.7±47.8 min) were faster in PRO (p<0.05). Cardiopulmonary effects did not have marked differences between groups. Median for induction doses of propofol was 5.9mg/kg, varying from 4.7 to 6.7mg/kg, Mean infusion rate was 0.37±0.11mg/kg/min, varying during the one-hour period. In TZ, two animals required three and five extra doses. Compared to tiletamine-zolazepam, minor post-anesthetic adverse events should be expected with propofol anesthesia due to the faster and superior anesthetic recovery.

The waste from the processing of kaolin in the Amazonian region of Brazil was subjected to a calcination process at 700°C for 2 h to obtain metakaolin, which, together with sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate, formed the reaction mixture. This mixture was subjected to an aging step (24 h at 60 rpm), and a subsequent hydrothermal process at 110°C for 10 h. By means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis (DTA/TG) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, the crystallization of a single phase, faujasite (FAU) zeolite, was observed. In the postsynthesis process, it was verified by means of XRD that the thermal stability of this structure persists up to a temperature of 600°C. At 800°C, the structure of FAU collapses. Beginning at 850°C, new nepheline phases are formed, and at 1000°C, nepheline and mullite phases are formed.

Abstract Soil provides important support for anthropogenic activities, and earthen trails, which have always been present in the natural landscape, are routes of access to various tourist attractions. In recent decades, trails have been widely used as a method of access and visitation to geotouristic attractions. Because trails are restricted routes, transit along these paths also transforms the route into a pathway for the spread of various negative environmental impacts, including compaction and soil erosion of the trailbed. Soil compaction is caused by changes in the soil structure that are partly induced by the use of agricultural or geotechnical machinery and traffic, and the damage is also manifested in a remarkable decrease in porosity, which has clear implications for the infiltration and percolation of water and air associated with the functional porosity of soil. Soil micromorphological characteristics contribute to the analysis of soil porous systems, and the macroporous characteristics visible at this scale include the size, shape and connectivity among voids, which can be studied using different methods of identification, measurement and interpretation. Such methods are applied to understand the pore genesis and, more importantly, the physical behavior of soil-water order management. This work presents the results of analyses of the macromorphological and micromorphological characteristics, porosity, texture and penetrometry resistance of soil profiles on the Farofa Waterfall trail in the Serra do Cipó National Park, and the aim is to provide recommendations for compaction studies along special trails. The results showed that most of the trailbed is more compressed than at the margins, which suggests the need for geoindicator studies of soil quality to monitor the visitation of the trail and improve the conservation of natural resources.

RESUMO: Saimiri sciureus é uma espécie de primata neotropical muito utilizada como animal de pesquisa. No entanto ainda há dificuldades em biotérios quanto a sua reprodução devido à alta ocorrência de distocia. A distocia em primatas pode ter origem devido à desproporção cefalopélvica, sendo que em macacos-de-cheiro é relatada a gestação de fetos grandes. O presente trabalho descreve dados de pelvimetria em espécimes de macaco-de-cheiro, fêmeas adultas e subadultas provenientes de uma colônia de pesquisa do Pará, Brasil. Foram realizadas radiografias da pelve em projeção ventrodorsal e por meio destas mensurados os diâmetros biilíaco superior (DBIS); diâmetro biíliaco inferior (DBII); diâmetro biilíaco médio (DBIM); diâmetro diagonal direito (DDD); diâmetro diagonal esquerdo (DDE); diâmetro sacro-púbico (DSP); com base nos diâmetros obtidos também foi calculada a área de entrada da pelve (AEP). Os valores médios dos diâmetros pélvicos e da AEP em fêmeas adultas foram: DBIS 1,714cm, DBIM 1,957cm, DBII 1,686cm, DDD 2,771cm, DDE 2,764cm, DSP 2,543cm e AEP 3,9056cm2; e para fêmeas subadultas: 1,588cm DBIS, 1,850cm DBIM, 1,625cm DBII, 2,50cm DDD, 2,474cm DDE, 1,95cm DSP e 2,8293 cm2 AEP. Observou-se que a pelve de Saimiri sciureus é dolicopélvica. Houve diferença estatística significativa entre os valores para fêmeas adultas e subadultas para DBIS, DBIM, DDD, DDE, DSP e AEP. Em comparação com dados da literatura de pelvimetria para S. sciureus observaram-se menores valores de DBIS e DBII. O resultado deste trabalho servirá como base para futuros estudos utilizando-se mensurações pélvicas e predição de distocia em primatas neotropicais e referência para comparação entre S. sciureus de diferentes biotérios.

ABSTRACT: Saimiri sciureus is a neotropical primate widely used in research. However, there are still difficulties regarding their reproduction in vivaria due to the high incidence of dystocia. Dystocia in primates can be caused by cephalopelvic disproportion and in Squirrel Monkeys, pregnancy of large fetuses were reported. This paper describes pelvimetry data of adult females and subadults in specimens of Squirrel Monkeys, from a research colony of Para, Brazil. Pelvic radiographs were obtained in ventrodorsal projections and the following measurements were taken: superior bi-iliac diameter (SBID); inferior bi-iliac diameter (IBID); bi-iliac average diameter (BIAD); right diagonal diameter (RDD); left diagonal diameter (LDD); sacro-pubic diameter (SPD); Based on the obtained diameters, the entrance area of the pelvis (EAP) was also calculated. The average values of the pelvic diameters and EAP in adult females were SBID 1.714cm, BIAD 1.957cm, IBID 1.686cm, RDD 2.771cm, LDD 2.764cm, SPD 2.543cm and EAP 3.9056cm2; and subadult females: 1.588cm SBID, 1.850cm BIAD, 1.625cm IBID, 2.50cm RDD, LDD 2.474cm, 1.95cm SPD and 2.8293 cm2 EAP. Saimiri sciureus pelvis is characterized as dolichopelvic. There was statistical significance between the values for adult females and subadults to SBID, BIAD, RDD, LDD, SPD and EAP. The values of SBID and IBID were lower when compared to the published data for the same species. The result found on this paper will serve as a basis for future studies using pelvic measurements and dystocia prediction of neotropical primates and comparison between different vivaria.

RESUMO Objetivo: estimar a prevalência da probabilidade de transtorno mental comum entre indivíduos que abusam de álcool e outras drogas. Método: estudo transversal. A amostra constituiu-se de 234 indivíduos em tratamento e reabilitação de dependência química em clínicas e em um Centro de Atenção Psicossocial na região sudeste do Estado de Goiás. Foram aplicados instrumentos sobre perfil sociodemográfico, consumo de drogas lícitas e/ou ilícitas, e o questionário que rastreia sofrimento mental comum. Resultados: a variável desfecho foi a probabilidade de transtorno mental comum, com 37,2% do total da amostra. Houve associação da probabilidade para transtorno mental comum com sexo feminino (odds ratio=4,06; IC95% 1,56-10,56), idade ≤25 anos (odds ratio=3,00; IC95% 1,41-6,38) e uso de maconha na vida (odds ratio=2,83; IC95% 1,38-5,78). Conclusão: o estudo revelou a associação entre uso e abuso de drogas com o risco para transtorno mental comum.

The sample was made up of 234 individuals undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for chemical dependence in private clinics and in a Psychosocial Care Center in the Southeast area of the state of Goiás, Brazil. Instruments on sociodemographic profile, use of licit and/or illicit drugs, and a questionnaire that tracks common mental suffering were applied. Results: the outcome variable was the probability of common mental disorder, with 37.2% of the total of the sample. Association between the probability of common mental disorders and the female gender (odds ratio=4.06; 95% CI 1.56-10.56), age ≤25 years old (odds ratio=3.00; 95% CCI 1.41-6.38), and use of marijuana in life (odds ratio=2.83; 95% CI 1.38-5.78) were found. Conclusion: the study showed an association between the use and abuse of drugs and risk for common mental disorders.

Foram aplicados instrumentos sobre perfil sociodemográfico, consumo de drogas lícitas e/ou ilícitas, e o questionário que rastreia sofrimento mental comum. Resultados: a variável desfecho foi a probabilidade de transtorno mental comum, com 37,2% do total da amostra. Houve associação da probabilidade para transtorno mental comum com sexo feminino (odds ratio=4,06; IC95% 1,56-10,56), idade ≤25 anos (odds ratio=3,00; IC95% 1,41-6,38) e uso de maconha na vida (odds ratio=2,83; IC95% 1,38-5,78). Conclusão: o estudo revelou a associação entre uso e abuso de drogas com o risco para transtorno mental comum.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Estimar a prevalência e determinantes do consumo de tabaco por estudantes. MÉTODOS Neste estudo de corte transversal, realizado entre 2013 e 2014, avaliamos 701 estudantes entre 10 e 79 anos de escolas públicas de um município do interior do estado de Goiás, Centro-Oeste do Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário estruturado, cujas variáveis preditoras foram: dados sociodemográficos, núcleo familiar, religião, prática de atividade física, funcionalidade familiar e pai ou mãe fumante. Foram implementados dois modelos multivariáveis, o primeiro para uso de tabaco na vida e o segundo para uso regular, obtendo-se como medida de efeito razão de prevalência (RP) e seus respectivos IC95%. Variáveis com p < 0,10 foram incluídas em modelos de regressão de Poisson com variância robusta, para obtenção da RP ajustada (RPaj) e IC95%. O teste Qui-quadrado de Wald foi utilizado para testar as diferenças entre as proporções, e valores com p < 0,05 foram considerados estatisticamente significantes. RESULTADOS As prevalências de consumo de tabaco na vida e regular foram de 33,4% (IC95% 29,8–36,9) e 6,7% (IC95% 5,0–8,8), respectivamente. Os fatores associados ao consumo de tabaco na vida foram: idade de 15 a 17 anos (RPaj = 1,98) e superior a 18 anos (RPaj = 3,87), sexo masculino (RPaj = 1,23), moderada disfuncionalidade familiar (RPaj = 1,30), elevada disfuncionalidade familiar (RPaj = 1,97) e pai ou mãe fumante (RPaj = 1,60). Em relação ao consumo regular de tabaco, permaneceram associados a idade superior a 18 anos (RPaj = 4,63), não possuir religião (RPaj = 2,08), elevada disfuncionalidade familiar (RPaj = 2,35) e pai ou mãe fumante (RPaj = 2,89). CONCLUSÕES Estudantes apresentam elevada prevalência de consumo de tabaco na vida e regular. Esse consumo associa-se com variáveis sociodemográficas e disfuncionalidade familiar.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE Estimate the prevalence and determinants of tobacco use by students. METHODS This cross-sectional study, carried out between 2013 and 2014, evaluates 701 public school students between 10 and 79 years of age living in a city in the countryside of the State of Goias, Midwest of Brazil. A structured questionnaire collected the data and the predictor variables were demographic data, family nucleus, religion, physical activity practice, family functionality and parental smoking. Two multivariable models were implemented, the first for occasional tobacco use and the second for regular use, acquiring the measure of prevalence ratio (PR) and their respective 95%CI. Variables with p < 0.10 were included in Poisson regression models with robust variance to obtain the adjusted PR (adPR) and 95%CI. The Wald Chi-Squared test examined the differences between proportions, and values with p < 0.05 were statistically significant. RESULTS The prevalence of occasional and regular tobacco use were 33.4% (95%CI 29.8–36.9) and 6.7% (95%CI 5.0–8.8), respectively. The factors associated with occasional tobacco consumption were age of 15 to 17 years (adPR = 1.98) and above 18 years (adPR = 3.87), male gender (adPR = 1.23), moderate family dysfunction (adPR = 1.30), high family dysfunction (adPR = 1.97) and parental smoking (adPR = 1.60). In regards to regular consumption of tobacco, age above 18 years (adPR = 4.63), lack of religion (adPR = 2.08), high family dysfunction (adPR = 2.35) and parental smoking (adPR = 2.89) remained associated. CONCLUSIONS Students exhibit a high prevalence of occasional and regular tobacco use. This consumption relates to sociodemographic variables and family dysfunction.
